Founded in December 2003 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, eWYKCars Trader began with a simple goal: to help sellers navigate online marketplaces more safely and efficiently. Our early work focused on assisting individual sellers, and by 2008, our services had expanded into Canada, the United Kingdom, and multiple major online classified markets. From the beginning, our mission has been to simplify the selling process by managing every step of the transaction and ensuring sellers are paid promptly upon completion.
eWYKCars Trader was co-founded by Brian Patterson and Doug Baxter, starting with just a $400 investment and a single $10 advertisement in the local weekly newspaper The Seven Days. In the early days, inventory was sourced hands-on—often through weekend garage sales. What began as a small operation quickly grew into a trusted transaction platform, facilitating hundreds of millions of dollars in vehicle sales across classified and auction marketplaces in North America and Europe.
The company was born out of firsthand frustration experienced as both buyers and sellers in online transactions. Too often, traditional payment services processed transactions without proper oversight, creating opportunities for fraud and leaving both parties vulnerable. In response, we built a system centered on verification, transparency, and control, where buyers confirm and approve items before sellers receive payment.
